WCAA Presents Birmingham Children's Theatre - A Sick Day For Amos McGee
Amos McGee is the kindest, most thoughtful zookeeper you’ll ever meet. Every day, he makes time for his animal friends—running races with the tortoise, sitting quietly with the shy penguin, and offering a handkerchief to a sniffling elephant. But when Amos wakes up feeling under the weather, it’s the animals’ turn to show how much they care. This heartwarming tale of friendship, empathy, and reciprocity comes to life with gentle humor and endearing characters—reminding us all of the joy in caring for others.
WeeFolks Show perfect for children of ages 4-8 years old. In the Wee Folks Theatre pre-K and elementary audiences are introduced to structured theatrical performances. 3 1/2 Hours in the Sipsey Wilderness
Reception May 14th 6-8 pm

Exhibition Dates: May 14 – August 21
Opening Reception: May 14, 6:00 – 8:00 PM
The Walker County Arts Alliance is pleased to present 3 1/2 Hours in the Sipsey Wilderness, a solo exhibition by Alabama artist Shannon Bourn.
The work for Three 1/2 hours in the Sipsey Wilderness is the product of my first visit to the Northern Alabama wildlife region known as the Sipsey Wilderness within the Bankhead National Forest that is near and dear to many hikers, campers and explorers. This unique and awe inspiring landscape has drawn in most of my family over several decades so it seemed inevitable that I should experience this place as well. My love of the geology of Alabama, the flora of Northern Alabama, led me to a hike in the Sipsey with a friend, as an easy introduction.
What transpired was a marvelous tour of rock walls, dripping water, luscious ferns, immense Big Leaf Magnolia and Eastern Hemlocks and rock loving plants all shifting in tone and color as we hiked through rain, mist and sunlight in a short period of time. It was an emotional experience that I’ve been trying to describe ever since.
Shannon Bourn is an artist living in Hoover, Alabama. Shannon earned her BFA in painting with a minor in drawing at the University of Evansville in Indiana and M.Ed from Cleveland State University in Ohio. After years of serving art students in college administration, art classrooms and private lessons, Shannon resumed full-time studio practice with a focus in painting and explorations in printmaking. Her work primarily focuses on spying on people in public settings, especially restaurants and cafes, with the recent exception of a new body of work that depicts an emotional interface with the Sipsey Wilderness.
The show will be open May 14th - August 21st.
