Walker County Arts Alliance is looking for our next Executive Director

The Board of Directors for the Walker County Arts Alliance (WCAA) invites applicants for its Executive Director position to submit a response to the Executive Director Position Description (see below).

 

The Walker County Arts Alliance (WCAA) is a 501(c)-3 nonprofit organization, founded in 2003, whose mission is to promote arts, artists, and culture in the Walker County area. WCAA provides educational opportunities in visual arts, pottery, music, storytelling, and DreamFit dance in Walker County schools. WCAA organizes Jasper’s Art in the Park arts festival, gallery exhibits at our facility on the Bevill State Community College (Jasper) campus, the 50 Mule Team public art project (now with over 80 mules), summer art camps, art workshops, theater productions, summer outdoor concerts with the Bankhead House & Heritage Center, and ongoing Focus on Art shows which pair an artist with a local business to display their work. We have enjoyable fundraising events like the Downtown Block Party and the Art Party.

 

Arts Alliance Goals

  • ​To support and develop arts in Walker County and to integrate artistic activities into the total life of the community.

  • To identify and encourage existing artists, projects, and folk traditions through the exchange of ideas and resources.

  • To establish and maintain a partnership with federal, state, and local arts agencies and funding sources.

  • To enhance accessibility to artistic expression to all people in Walker County by developing community arts center(s), arts education in public schools, and community arts events.

  • To serve the people of Walker County by enhancing the public’s appreciation for and awareness of the arts as an expression of the best of the human spirit.

 

Executive Director Position Description:

The Executive Director reports to the President of the Board of Directors and is responsible for coordinating the daily operations and administrative functions of the WCAA and its office, including general office maintenance and support in the areas of information/database management, technology/equipment maintenance, mailings, and staff/volunteer schedules. This is a part-time position.

 

Special Emphasis:

  • Obtaining funding, equipment, expertise, and other resources for the development of a first-class arts program emphasizing arts education for local schools. Such a program should include, but not be limited to, classroom sessions, as well as related tours and demonstrations at local venues.

  • Establish and maintain relationships with key arts personnel in Alabama, and, in particular, Walker County, to promote our educational goals and provide artistic experiences for the public.

  • Research, seek and secure external funding.

  • Serve as the WCAA spokesperson for the arts in Walker County.

  • Serve and build the WCAA membership by actively recruiting new members and establishing and maintaining relationships with current members.

  • Must work collaboratively with WCAA Board of Directors, WCAA members, community leaders and media.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate events.

  • Curate gallery exhibits and Focus on Art displays.

  • Coordinate, distribute and respond to all general mail, email, and phone inquiries.

  • Maintain membership information including the e-list and database.

  • Coordinate recruitment of volunteers and supervise volunteers.

  • Maintain office equipment and supplies and contacts with vendors.

  • Coordinate backup of data and maintain computer network/technology/software upgrades.

  • Basic bookkeeping data entry and tracking of petty cash.

  • Assist the WCAA Board with general administrative support and coordination of logistics as needed.

  • Coordinate public relations and marketing for the WCAA and its events.

 

Qualification:

  • Highly organized and detail-oriented

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Self-motivated and able to work as part of a team.

  • Ability to multi-task and work efficiently.

  • Commitment to the arts and/or goals of the WCAA

  • General knowledge of technology, internet, and computers; knowledge of all MS Office applications
