Cathy Jo Wheeler
Cathy Jo Wheeler’s jewelry has been described as playful, whimsical, funky, and fun. She designs jewelry using dichroic glass. Cathy Jo is drawn to bright, rich colors and the interplay of light both reflected and transmitted by the dichroic glass. Each piece is hand cut from dichroic glass, and the different patterns of glass are fused together in a kiln. She uses sterling wire to freeform wrap each piece which creates a beautiful way to anchor the piece to the ear, wire, or chain.
Cathy Jo also creates unique jewelry from silver, gold and copper wire. She has recently begin working with fine silver clay. This medium combines her love for working with clay and creating jewelry.
A Birmingham native, Cathy Jo graduated from the University of Montevallo with a degree in art with concentrations in ceramics and photography. She is past President, Screening Chair and Co-show Chair of the Bluff Park Art Association. Cathy Jo is co-owner and treasurer of Artists Incorporated Gallery. She shows her work at Artists Incorporated Gallery in Leeds and at galleries in Fairhope.
